San Francisco is by no means geographically far from New York, but that doesn’t change the fact that the city is just different – the landscape, the vibe, the people – all different. Lately I’ve been down on NY and thinking there had to be something better than being cooped up in an office building all day in a loud, somewhat less than clean, city. Of course, I was in that frame of mine when I saw that our San Francisco office has this view:
And flowers like these! Everything seemed better – the view, the air, the workload. Man, Cali is where it is AT. But then I started thinking back to NY and what we have there. No view like above or clean air off a bay, but at the same time I live where everything IS. Land of $10 massages (no funny business), delivered groceries, a decent subway, unique fashion, food from every cuisine and unlimited entertainment.
Apart from rest and relaxation, travel is a vehicle for gaining new experiences. Sometimes it’s more Eat, Pray, Love…sometimes it’s more Geroge Bush looking awkward during a tribal dance in an African village. Hopefully its not really either of those, but there’s usually some learning going on, and that learning turns into some appreciation for the city, country or culture. But there’s also an appreciation gained for what you’ve left back home. So, while I’m convinced that I could live in Cali, perhaps traveling only to the other coast was enough to make me appreciate NY again. You know, until I find another 3 inch cockroach is in my bed. Until then, back to the NY office 🙂
